A Shout-out to Shiriyah

During ninth period on Thursday, January 7th, a tremendous excitement filled the air as Dr. Stein made an announcement on the intercom. Within minutes the entire shul was completely filled with every student, teacher, and administrator. Every Frisch student knew that, after weeks of rumors and speculation, Shiriyah 5770 was finally breaking out.

The breakout was masked by the phony upcoming “student-teacher conferences.” A hilarious skit discussing the do’s and don’ts of student-teacher conferences was played, which was then transitioned into a parody of a popular YouTube video. Then, Shiriyah broke out. The generals, captains, and themes of each grade were announced. The theme of each grade, respectively, was emunah, tefillah, kedushat hachol, and hoda’ah.

Actual Shiriyah preparations were not allowed to begin on that Thursday. Fortunately, each grade made tremendous strides on Sunday regarding stomp, skit, banner, and hallway. On the following Monday, progress was evident in every aspect of Shiriyah. Firstly, each grade received an inspirational speech regarding their theme. By hearing these words, each student’s understanding of his or her theme was further concretized. Secondly, the first grade singing practice took place. Each grade prepared both a slow and fast song, which will be sung at the culmination of Shiriyah. Additionally, much was completed in the back of the lunchroom. There, students could be found throughout the day painting posters that were used for the hallway. Many people were covered in paint by the end of the day, but were ecstatic and laughing nonetheless.

While walking through the hallways, one could discern the sheer happiness of the students once Shiriyah had finally arrived. The generals and captains especially were excited, as well as extremely motivated to make this year’s Shiriyah the best one yet. As Ariella Levie, one of the sophomore captains, put it, “Shiriyah is the highlight of the year. Shiriyah 5770 is going to be the best one yet, guaranteed!”
