The Goldstone Report accuses Israel of war crimes in Gaza during Operation Cast Lead and condemns Israel for acting in self-defense against Hamas terrorists. However, the Israeli army went out of its way to protect civilians and warned the enemy that they were going to attack, something, IDF soldiers claim, no other army in the world would ever do. Unlike many other countries in the world, though, Israel's legitimacy as a state, not just its specific military actions, is questioned by the world.

Avi Posnick from Stand With Us and two Israeli soldiers spoke to the seniors on Monday about the complexities of being an Israeli soldier and the morality of the Israeli Army. Avi, age 31, a commander in the paratrooper brigade who is now studying Middle Eastern studies, explained how Israel was put in a tough situation. Because Hamas uses children, schools, hospitals, and civilians homes to store weapons and launch missiles, Operation Cast Lead was a war of Israeli soldiers in uniform against terrorists in civilian clothing among civilians. It was in response to over eight thousand rockets shot into Israel from the Gaza strip.

"Their missiles aren't targeting military bases; they are targeting cities and civilians," said Yoav, age 26, a commander of the Special Forces of the Airforce, studying Law and Business management. When he teaches his soldiers about theRules of Engagement, he always tell them, "you always need to respect human beings and remember that you are a human being."

"Tomorrow, you are going to be the soldiers," Yoav told the seniors. "You need to protect Israel out of the borders, at colleges and universities, and tell other people about our country, our army, our morals."

"We have a great country, and we have to show it to the world because the world doesn't want to listen. Israel is just asking to be recognized," he concluded.

Rabbi Wald told the seniors, "The soldiers, our Israeli soldiers, are risking their lives for morality." Yoav added, "Now it's in your hands."
