High School DxD has established itself as a premier supernatural anime series, renowned for its intricate lore, action-packed battles, and expansive cast of characters. The story follows Issei Hyoudou, an ordinary high school student whose life dramatically changes after being slain and resurrected as a devil. Navigating the delicate balance between supernatural factions requires a clear understanding of the key figures driving the narrative forward.
The Core Members of the Occult Research Club
Issei Hyoudou serves as the central protagonist whose growth from a weak pawn to a formidable warrior anchors the series. Driven by his fierce loyalty to his friends, his possession of the Boosted Gear containing the Welsh Dragon grants him immense potential. His journey is defined by overcoming personal limits to protect those he holds dear.
Rias Gremory, the high-ranking devil known as the Crimson-Haired Ruin Princess, acts as the leader of the Occult Research Club. She revives Issei into her peerage, guiding him through the dangerous politics of the Underworld. Her tactical mind and powerful Destruction Magic make her a pivotal figure in every major conflict.
Key Supporting Allies and Combatants
Akeno Himejima functions as Rias's trusted second-in-command, wielding devastating Lightning and Holy abilities. Behind her gentle demeanor lies a complex heritage as a fallen angel-devil hybrid, making her one of the most powerful members of the group. Asia Argento provides essential support to the team as a former holy maiden possessing the Twilight Healing Sacred Gear. Her innocent nature and capacity to restore vital energy make her indispensable during high-stakes battles. Her close bond with Issei drives much of the early emotional development in the story.
Devils, Angels, and Supernatural Factions
Kiba Yuuto serves as the knight of the peerage, recognized for his exceptional sword skills and mastery over the Sword Birth Sacred Gear. Driven initially by a desire for vengeance, his arc focuses on overcoming his past to become a true pillar of strength. His swift combat style offers a sharp contrast to the heavy offensive powers of his teammates.

Xenovia brings intense zeal and heavy holy swords to the battlefield, while Koneko utilizes Senjutsu to enhance her natural strength. Together, these diverse characters create a balanced team capable of confronting major threats across the three factions.
